About OTR - Open Trail Races

Run trail races on your schedule with OTR - Open Trail Races, the app that lets you compete whenever you want. Races stay open year-round, 365 days a 24 hours a day. As you pass through each checkpoint, the app automatically generates live rankings so you can see how you stack up against other runners in real time.

Getting started takes just minutes. Download the app, create your account, and browse available races. Select the route you want to run, download the track to your phone, and head to the starting point marked with an OTR Start sign. Press the START button when you're ready to begin. Your phone's GPS and Bluetooth will track your progress automatically — you can even put your device in a pocket or backpack once you've started. Keep GPS and Bluetooth enabled throughout your run, and avoid airplane mode. For longer races over 4 hours, bring an external battery to ensure your phone stays powered. Just stay on the marked route and run until you reach the finish point. When you cross it, the app displays "Finisher!" and your time stops automatically — or press the STOP button to end your race. Your results upload immediately to the server for verification and ranking placement.

Compete without worrying about mobile data costs when you're abroad. The app uses only GPS and Bluetooth to track your performance, so you can run offline anywhere in the world. No data roaming charges apply.

Track your progress against the competition and yourself. View your split times at every checkpoint, compare your performance to the race leader and the top runner in your category, and see how close you are to your personal best. Improve your time by running the same race multiple times — your best performance counts toward your final ranking.

OTR supports championships and stage races where cumulative times across multiple events build your overall score. Mountain traverses work the same way, replacing traditional stamping systems at mountain huts. Once you complete all stages in a championship, you'll receive a certificate in your email documenting your times and final ranking.

OTR - Open Trail Races removes barriers to trail racing. Run any time, any day. No waiting for official race dates. No travel to distant events. Compete at your own pace, on your own schedule, and watch your name climb the rankings as you cross each checkpoint.
